Virtual Women's Health Clinic Visana Health Secures $24M in Series A Funding

Visana Health, a virtual women's health clinic focused on complex patients, has successfully closed a $24 million series A funding round. The investment, led by Noro-Moseley Partners with support from Cigna Group Ventures and Intermountain Ventures, aims to expand the company's clinical offerings and enhance its technological infrastructure.

Comprehensive Care for Complex Patients

Visana Health positions itself as a medical home for women, addressing a wide range of conditions from menstruation to midlife, including high-cost, complex issues such as menopause, endometriosis, and PCOS. The company's patient base typically presents with three to four chronic conditions, highlighting the need for coordinated care.

Joe Connolly, co-founder and CEO of Visana, emphasized the company's holistic approach: "Women can turn to us for any condition that they need. Women are often coming to us with signs and symptoms. They don't necessarily have a diagnosed condition … oftentimes, it's more than one issue."

Market Demand and Cost Savings

The women's health market is experiencing significant growth, with Connolly citing a Cigna figure that 86% of employers are very or extremely interested in comprehensive women's health solutions. Visana's payer partnerships currently represent over 35 million covered lives, while self-funded employer partnerships cover more than 1 million lives.

Visana claims to reduce employer medical costs by 34%, cut unnecessary procedures by 78%, and deliver annual savings of over $2,400 per enrollee. The company is on track to serve nearly 50,000 women this year, addressing a critical need in the healthcare system.

Innovative Approach to Care Delivery

Visana's care model begins with a 45-minute visit to screen for primary care, cardiometabolic, and behavioral health issues, followed by a comprehensive care plan. The company employs a combination of virtual consultations, in-app symptom logging, and care coordination for in-person services when necessary.

Recent additions to Visana's offerings include an in-house endocrinologist to address complex cases and reduce wait times for specialist care. The company also takes a targeted approach to obesity management, considering alternatives to GLP-1 medications as front-line treatments.

As part of its expansion plans, Visana will use the new funding to enhance its artificial intelligence capabilities, including an in-house tool for providers and external AI scribes to improve clinical efficiency.
