Siemens Healthineers Expands Robotics Portfolio with Micromate Partnership

Siemens Healthineers, a global leader in medical technology, has announced a strategic partnership with Interventional Systems to co-market the innovative Micromate robot for angiography suites. This collaboration marks Siemens Healthineers' second venture into the robotics space this month, signaling a significant push towards advanced medical automation.

Micromate: A Miniature Marvel in Medical Robotics

The Micromate robot, developed by Interventional Systems, is a compact device designed for image-guided and needle-based procedures. About the size of a shoebox, this miniature robot sits above the patient during CT or X-ray scans, offering precise control and alignment of off-the-shelf instruments such as biopsy needles and ablation hardware.

One of the key advantages of the Micromate system is its ability to allow clinicians to operate from outside the radiation field, potentially reducing exposure risks for medical staff. Siemens Healthineers aims to integrate this technology with its Artis line of C-arm scanners, broadening the Micromate's application in angiography suites for interventional percutaneous procedures.

Jayant Saha, Head of Global Business Development for Interventional Radiology at Siemens Healthineers, emphasized the potential benefits of this partnership: "This partnership with Interventional Systems can help speed-up procedures, freeing procedure room time while enhancing quality of care. Siemens Healthineers' Growing Robotics Portfolio

This latest partnership follows closely on the heels of another significant robotics collaboration announced earlier this month. Siemens Healthineers revealed plans to work with Stryker in developing a new robotic system for treating strokes and aneurysms within the brain. This project aims to combine Siemens Healthineers' expertise in imaging and its Corindus division with Stryker's hardware for neurovascular interventions.
