AI-Powered Patient Communication Startup Hello Patient Secures $22.5M in Series A Funding

Hello Patient, a startup leveraging generative artificial intelligence (AI) to handle patient communications for medical practices, has raised $22.5 million in a Series A funding round. The investment, led by Scale Venture Partners with participation from 8VC, Bling Capital, Max Ventures, Remus Capital, and FirstLook Partners, values the company at $100 million.

Rapid Growth and Expanding Capabilities

Since its inception, Hello Patient has experienced substantial growth, now powering between 10,000 to 20,000 provider-patient conversations daily. The company's AI agents manage real-time conversations across voice, text, and chat platforms, handling tasks such as appointment booking, answering patient queries, and re-engaging patients while adhering to healthcare privacy and security standards.

Alex Cohen, CEO and founder of Hello Patient, highlighted the company's unique position in the market: "We're still one of the only few that's doing phone calling, texting, and chatbot across both inbound and outbound use cases." The platform has already facilitated over 100,000 phone calls and 300,000 patient conversations in less than a year.

Addressing Healthcare Administrative Challenges

Hello Patient's AI-driven solution aims to tackle the significant administrative burden faced by medical practices. By automating front-office tasks such as appointment scheduling, referral follow-ups, and prescription refills, the platform allows healthcare staff to focus on more valuable, patient-facing work.

The company has tailored its services to various medical specialties, including urgent care, ENT, allergy, primary care, dermatology, orthopedics, med spas, and veterinary clinics. Cohen emphasized the company's approach: "These things are still so early that it's all very much a partnership, and it's a 'crawl, walk, run' approach with everyone."

Competitive Landscape and Future Plans

The conversational AI market in healthcare is becoming increasingly competitive. Other players in the field include Assort Health, which recently raised $50 million at a $750 million valuation, and EliseAI, which secured $250 million in Series E funding to expand into the healthcare sector.

Hello Patient plans to use the new funding to expand its product capabilities, scale its reach to healthcare organizations, and bolster its engineering and implementation teams. Cohen noted the growing demand for AI strategies in healthcare, particularly for patient-facing applications: "With where the market is, every healthcare provider or group has just an AI strategy right now, especially on the AI for the patient front."

As the company continues to evolve, it remains committed to developing what Cohen describes as "the most advanced conversational AI purpose-built for healthcare," aiming to address the communication challenges between patients and providers efficiently and effectively.
