AI Integration in Healthcare: Suki and WellSky Partner to Enhance EHR Capabilities

Health technology company WellSky has announced a strategic partnership with Suki to integrate ambient artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities into its specialty care electronic health record (EHR) system. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the application of AI technologies within the healthcare sector, particularly in post-acute care settings.

Ambient AI Integration in Specialty Care

WellSky, a provider of technology solutions for post-acute care, community health, home health, and hospice organizations, will incorporate Suki's AI-powered ambient listening feature across its specialty care EHR. The integration will initially focus on behavioral health, long-term acute care, and rehabilitation settings, serving more than 20,000 providers.

The ambient listening tool allows clinicians to speak naturally during patient visits while the AI technology listens in the background, automatically generating structured notes and summaries for review. This innovation promises to streamline workflows, eliminate manual data entry, and create more thorough and reliable documentation.

Amy Shellhart, WellSky's chief solutions officer, emphasized the seamless integration of Suki's capabilities: "We believe that the best use of AI is when it's enabled directly within the clinicians' workflow. Suki really allowed us to integrate their capabilities directly in so that it just feels like one workflow for the clinician."

Efficiency Gains and Revenue Potential

Preliminary testing of the WellSky Ambient Listening capabilities, powered by Suki, has shown promising results:

  • 41% reduction in documentation time per clinical note
  • 37% decrease in after-hours work
  • Potential for up to $1,688 in additional incremental monthly revenue per user

These efficiency gains are particularly significant in the context of the universal need to reduce administrative burden for healthcare providers. Erik Nyberg, executive vice president of technology at KVC Health Systems, an early adopter of the solution, noted: "WellSky Ambient Listening is proving to be a meaningful time saver for our clinicians. It's helping reduce the documentation burden and allows our team to spend more time with patients."

Expanding AI Capabilities in Healthcare

The partnership between WellSky and Suki is part of a broader trend of AI integration in healthcare technologies. Suki, founded in 2017, has been rapidly expanding its partnerships with health systems, health tech companies, and EHR solutions. The company's ambient solution is now compatible with 100 medical specialties and 81 different languages, serving more than 400 health systems and partners.

Punit Soni, CEO and co-founder of Suki, outlined the company's vision: "We have a belief that ambient clinical intelligence is going to be in every single health system in the world, and every single healthcare tech company in the world will need to integrate it."

WellSky is also advancing its AI initiatives beyond this partnership. The company recently unveiled AI capabilities in its EHR for home health providers, including the WellSky Scribe tool for ambient listening and transcription. Additionally, WellSky has expanded its partnership with Google Cloud to integrate Google's latest Gemini multimodal AI models and develop new AI tools for hospices and other post-acute care providers.

As the healthcare industry continues to embrace AI technologies, partnerships like the one between WellSky and Suki are poised to play a crucial role in shaping the future of clinical documentation and patient care delivery.
